Popovers For Breakfast

They popped so big, they were too big for the serving bowl.

And yes, they are Kolo's favorites. It tickles my heart to watch her enjoy eating so much.

Kolo Loves the Snow

Her face may be a bit grayer these days, but Kolo still delights in playing in the snow. She runs with glee, even with her sore leg. She looks like joy in the clean white. She stops and smells the air, full of animals and possibilities. She is so honest, it is hard not to be totally in love with her.

"I give you this to take with you:
Nothing remains as it was.
If you know this, you can begin again,
with pure joy in the uprooting."
~ Judith Minty, Letters to My Daughters

Popovers!

Popovers!
We may have snow outside, but inside the kitchen is warm and full of good smells. Popovers!

I am holding the camera and trying to get the shot of her. She is too excited and I have to contend with the shutter delay. Sorry, Kolo, for cutting off your head, but I think your excitement translates to the shot.

Close Up

Believe me, getting her to look at the camera, then capturing it, is a big deal.

In The Moment With Her

I'm working on my journal again and Kolo is supervising. (Keeping me company?)

“Dogs, lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”

Out Back

Kolo out back, surveys her kingdom. Perhaps sees some deer.

Fried Chicken Lovers

Who would have guessed that Kolo LOVES fried chicken almost as much as my brother? Here they are sharing a snack.

Back Deck Smells

Late afternoon and Kolo is out on the back deck, well aware that the deer are nearby.

Waiting for Breakfast

Hurry Up!

Kolo waiting for breakfast. I love how she rests on her haunches.
